Fire Sprinkler Designer (Experienced)
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
About the Role
We're seeking a seasoned Fire Sprinkler Designer to take commercial projects through their full lifecycle — from early layout to final installation. You'll own standard commercial work day to day, partnering closely with project managers and field crews to deliver complete drawing sets and submittal packages.
This is a strong fit for a designer who already knows the trade: someone fluent in AutoCAD, comfortable making sound design calls, and able to balance code compliance with what actually works in the field. Your compensation and scope will reflect your experience, technical skill, and ability to run projects on your own.
What You'll Do
- Lay out fire sprinkler systems in AutoCAD and HydraCAD
- Prepare shop and fabrication drawings, hydraulic calculations, and submittal packages
- Work through architectural plans, specs, contracts, and project requirements
- Coordinate across project managers, installers, general contractors, engineers, and authorities having jurisdiction
- Apply NFPA standards alongside local codes and project-specific criteria
- Revise designs to resolve field conditions, installation conflicts, and coordination issues
- Visit job sites for surveys and hydrant flow tests when needed
- Support material coordination, fabrication drawings, and project closeout
- Flag potential design problems early and communicate clear solutions
What You'll Need
- Hands-on fire sprinkler design experience
- Strong AutoCAD skills; HydraCAD experience required
- Ability to read architectural, structural, and MEP plans
- Working knowledge of NFPA 13 and standard commercial sprinkler design
- Sharp attention to detail and solid spatial reasoning, with a practical grasp of field installation
- Clear communicator and effective problem-solver
- Comfortable with Word, Excel, Adobe, and everyday computer tasks
- High school diploma (minimum) and a valid driver's license
- Able to pass a background check and drug screening
- Must live within one hour of Sunnyvale, TX and work in-office daily
Nice to Have
- 3+ years of fire sprinkler design experience
- Background in commercial, retail, warehouse, school, or light industrial projects
- Comfort with hydraulic calculations
- Experience coordinating directly with field crews and PMs
- NICET certification
Who Thrives Here
This role suits a current sprinkler designer who wants a seat on a smaller, hands-on team where individual work visibly shapes each project's outcome. It's also a great step for a mid-level designer ready to take on more ownership, sharpen their skills, and grow into a more independent role.
